Pictures say more than a thousand words. But painting a picture through science is not always easy—if it is even appropriate. When pictures and words come together to express what can only be read and not seen, poetry is created.
In my view, the climate debate mostly revolves around people accusing each other of denying reality or of inventing reality which does not exist. Poetry can expose new ways at understanding the truth and help others to better understand one’s point of view.
The climate is both an objective and a subjective topic. Numbers, facts, and evidence can speak for themselves—as can opinions, views and experiences. I like to use poetry, because sometimes, even in science, a picture can say more than a thousand words.
The One
It’s very hot today,
But not concerning in any way.
It rains, it snows, it’s always changing –
I don’t know what you are really claiming.
Data, proof, and many studies –
Knowledge is divisive, my opinion has no buddies.
One loud voice floods the atmosphere,
Everyone freezes, listens with fear.
Is it fake, are we being fooled?
One speaks loudly – am I overruled?
What if the one is right and we are wrong?
Are we truly that strong?
Don’t be mistaken!
Facts are firm – opinions can be shaken.
Them treating climate like a game,
Those should feel guilt and shame.
The one should be heard and must be,
But critique and debate are part of democracy.
Be part of it and listen carefully –
The world is dying, literally.
It’s not about the one, but the collective.
It’s urgent, ‘cause it changes the perspective.
